I can’t imagine why I even finished this book; I guess I did want to know what happened in the end, but I skimmed a great deal of it. What annoyed me was that the first-person narrator was so stupid: she drove me absolutely crazy.

It was billed as a “gothic” scary book – not my usual kind of book at all, but it had rave reviews on a couple of book review sites that I visit. I won’t mention any names, but I shall be approaching their reviews with a little more scepticism in future.

I should have known better when I searched for it in my library and found it catalogued under “Romances & Sagas”.

Arrrghh.
